To see his limp wrists
and delicate fingers
raising the elements
as if they are just as
venerable as those hands,
to hear the words
of consecration adorned
with a soft sibilance—
to see my own body
in that venerable body
dressed in flowing fabric,
with something to offer,
to remember and to be
re-made as a member,
to see him setting table,
mixing the drinks and
washing all the dishes.


You're observing a priest and identifying with him? I think I understand what you're saying about the Eucharist. Am I missing something?
